Our heritage as memorial designers
For over 125 years, five generations of the Gast family have worked as designers, sculptors and stone carvers in Chicago. Our original Clark Street studio opened in 1880 by Engelbert Gast and his partner, Christian Buscher. Trained in Bavaria as a sculptor, Engelbert provided the company with a foundation for memorial art in stone. Bert J. Gast was recognized as an industry leader in ecclesiastical memorials as well as his innovative custom memorial designs for individuals and families the like. Today, the same skill and craftsmanship is carried on by a fifth generation of brothers — James and John Gast.
Our reputation as designers
A number of cemeteries across the country have commissioned Gast Monuments to design and carve commemorative sculptures and shrines. We have received international recognition for these major works of art. The same artistic skills and dedication are applied to every memorial we design — from marker to monument.
We believe that a memorial should reflect the unique qualities of the person or family for whom it has been created. Accordingly, we work with you in the selection of an appropriate and personalized memorial. A great many of our designs have been copy-righted and cannot be duplicated.
